Unifying the Northern California Shambhala Mandala: Our Regional Sangha's Strategic Plan

Cheerful Shambhala Day! We are pleased to present a strategic plan for unifying the regional sangha and bringing to fruition the Sakyong’s vision of creating a West Coast headquarters or Dzong for Shambhala.

The creation of a West Coast headquarters, or ‘home’ for Shambhala is one major strategy in our plan. This headquarters is called a “Dzong” which is the Tibetan word for “Fortress”. The initial dzong will be housed in the San Francisco Shambhala Center when it relocates to a new building. The dzong will be an anchor at the center of our regional mandala so we are sure the Shambhala teachings will be here even when we find ourselves surrounded by stormy seas. It will be a prominent physical manifestation of basic goodness, a place where people can immediately connect to their true nature. The dzong will also have the mission of manifesting generosity in the world. As an emanation of generosity, the dzong will:
1. Serve as a seat for the Sakyong and Sakyong Wangmo.
2. Support the citizens of Northern California Shambhala Mandala in bringing Shambhala into our communities through meditation practice, study, and “meditation in action”.
3. Offer services to support the regional sangha and meditation centers.

Regional Working Group Updates, Shambhala Day 2009

At the November 2008 Regional Assembly, several new regional working groups were formed. These are teams of caring Shambhala members who are willing to work together for a good cause. The following update tells you what they and other regional councils and committees have been up to lately. Download Working Groups' Update
